FOR TODAY’S POPULAR HALFBREED SADDLES
This Northern Champion Drafter is US bound. The new owner custom ordered his saddle with Ezee ride oxbows and a Bates right girth system.
Ezee ride oxbows are especially shaped. The width of the tread is 4″. It has a 1″ thick piece of foam rubber to cushion the feet. For long hours in the saddle these are well worth considering.
The off side of the Bates system is a red hide latigo strap. It does up just like a normal latigo on a Western saddle and once done up to the correct length does not need adjusting unless perhaps you change horses.
The near side has the wide strap that passes through the dee on the saddle and back through the top slot on the Bates buckle back through the saddle dee and then through the bottom slot on the Bates buckle where the buckle is situated.
The great thing about this system is that when mounted on your horse you can reach down and grab the end of the strap and pill it up a hole without dismounting. Once doneup the tongueof the buckle prevents the ring on the girth from coming out of the buckle. This is a strong easy to use system.
Near side has a two inch webbing strap, which passes around the buckle and inskirt rigging 2 – 3 times then buckles up.
When buckled up the excess strap passes through the holder.
The offside has a 2 inch web strap which passes over the C rigging so that it is actually double thickness at the point it buckles up.
The girth, when not in use can be buckled onto the leather attachment as shown so it is not dragging in the dirt and picking up burrs.
This attachment is for the loose end of the girth when not in use.
Polished aluminium oxbow is part of the standard mounts package. Universal oxbow fits standard 1 1/4″ leathers or 2 1/2″ fender strap. |
Above – Double girth system provides extra stability and if one girth should malfunction you have a back up system.
TWO POINT GIRTH SYSTEM FOR HALFBREED SADDLES
Most sporting bodies now make it compulsory for saddles to have a stirrup bar and 2 point girth system. James Saddlery can build a second attachment point into your saddle if required. It is done in such a way that you can use it when the need arises or not at all.
